Do not read anything here as legal, insurance, engineering or tax advice. Each cost figure carries its source and year, and national numbers say so. Your actual price will come from a written estimate prepared by a contractor who has seen the basement.

Rules, permit practice and public services change. If a page here sums up information from the City of Rochester, 311, the Bureau of Zoning & Permitting, Monroe County Pure Waters, the NY Attorney General, Irondequoit, Greece, Chili, Henrietta, Penfield or any other public body, check it with that office before relying on it. The site is run separately from all of these bodies, and none of them endorses or cooperates with it. City services like 311 cover City of Rochester addresses only, and Pure Waters' backup line serves the City and a small number of towns, Chili included.

Notes on snowfall, storms and local history credit their sources, such as the National Weather Service or local news reports, and are there for context.

The wet-basement checker and cost calculator are rough guides. Neither can look at a wall or tell you why water is getting in.

A contractor that receives a request is a separate business, and the site answers for none of its estimates, work or behavior. Contractors may pay for advertising space; homeowners pay nothing and are given nothing. Insurance is outside the site's role altogether. Monroe County observes that sewer-backup damage is usually excluded from homeowner policies, so read yours and ask your agent about adding a rider.
